COPE NICU Program Details
The COPE NICU Parent Program
is an evidence-based

who have just experienced the premature birth of an infant. It is designed to
begin very early in the course of the NICU admission and extends through the
first week after discharge. The program consists of a series of CD’s along with
written information and reinforcing activities for parents.
Results of a randomized controlled trial with 260 families showed that this program resulted in positive outcomes for parents which included: less stress in the NICU; stronger beliefs/confidence in their ability to care for their infants; more developmentally sensitive interactions with their infants; less depression and anxiety symptoms; greater satisfaction with the NICU stay and; higher readiness for their infant’s discharge. Positive infant outcomes included: 4-day shorter length of stay in the NICU for preterms 26-34 weeks and; 8-day shorter length of stay in the NICU for preterms under 32 weeks.
